The Annual School Quiz Is Back for 2026
People First Credit Union is inviting primary schools in the Portlaoise, Athy, Stradbally & Abbeyleix areas to participate in the 2026 Credit Union Schools Quiz.
The quiz will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel Portlaoise, Monday 9th of February 2026 at 7.00pm. We ask all participants to be at the venue at 6.30pm sharp. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 28th January 2026. Our photographer will also take pictures for the local paper during this time.
Schools can enter a maximum of 2 teams consisting of either: AA, AB, or BB.
| Competition A: | Under 11 - for entrants aged 10 or younger on 31st December 2025 (Rounds 1 to 10) |
| Competition B: | Under 13 - for entrants aged 12 or younger on 31st December 2025 (Rounds 1 to 12 - two extra rounds) |
The Schools Quiz, Ireland’s largest competition of its kind, draws over 25,000 students annually. Held in three stages from January through April, the contest concludes with the national final at the RDS Dublin on Sunday, 19th April 2026.

The Schools Quiz is one of the Credit Union’s most celebrated and enjoyable events. For generations, it has been a rite of passage for schoolchildren, and we’re excited to invite all local schools to join this year’s edition.
But the quiz is about more than prizes and knowledge—it’s an unforgettable journey of teamwork, friendly competition, and camaraderie, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.
The competition is divided by age group into two categories. Competition A is categorised for entrants under 11 years of age and Competition B is for children under 13 years of age. In each group, teams are comprised of four members.
Questions will cover a wide range of topics including geography, history, music, literature, and sport, and we have no doubt that school children will rise to the challenge.

About The Credit Union School Quiz
Each team is comprised of four members.
The quiz is divided into two sections:
Competition A: Under 11 - for entrants aged 10 or younger on 31st December 2025
(Rounds 1 to 10)
Competition B: Under 13 - for entrants aged 12 or younger on 31st December 2025
(Rounds 1 to 12 - two extra rounds)
Every team competing receives a special certificate marking their achievement with local and regional winners also receive a range of prizes.
The winning teams at the national finals will receive €1,250 per school, with the runner up teams in each category receiving €750 for their schools, adding up to a fantastic prize fund of €4,000. The national winners and runners-up receive a silver salver, significant personal prizes for each team, and their schools are each awarded a substantial cheque.
