Knowledge Seekers Sought for the 2025 Credit Union Schools Quiz

People First Credit Union is inviting primary schools in the Portlaoise, Athy, Stradbally & Abbeyleix areas to participate in the 2025 Credit Union Schools Quiz.

The quiz will take place in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Monday 10th February at 7.00pm. We ask all participants to be at the venue at 6.30pm sharp. The closing date for entries is Friday 31st January 2025. Our photographer will also take pictures for the local paper during this time.

Schools can enter a maximum of 2 teams consisting of either: AA, AB, or BB.

Competition A Under 11 years – entrants aged 10 or younger on 31st December 2024 (Rounds 1 to 10)

Competition B Under 13 years – entrants aged 12 or younger on 31st December 2024 (Rounds 1 to 12 – two extra rounds)

The Schools Quiz, which attracts more than 25,000 participating students each year, is the largest competition of its type in Ireland. Run over three stages between the months of January to April, the competition culminates in a national final in the RDS Dublin on Sunday 6th April 2025.

The Schools Quiz is one of the most important and enjoyable events organised by the Credit Union. It's been a rite of passage for so many school children down through the years and we're inviting all of our local schools to take part in this year's event.

The competition is much more than a chance to show off your knowledge and win prizes. It is an unforgettable journey of team work and camaraderie than can create lasting memories for all those that take part.

The competition is divided by age group into two categories. Competition A is categorised for entrants under 11 years of age and Competition B is for children under 13 years of age. In each group, teams are comprised of four members.

Questions will cover a wide range of topics including geography, history, music, literature, and sport, and we have no doubt that school children will rise to the challenge.

ABOUT THE CREDIT UNION SCHOOLS QUIZ

Each team is comprised of four members.

The quiz is divided into two sections: Competition A: Under 11 - for entrants aged 10 or younger on 31st December 2024 Competition B: Under 13 - for entrants aged 12 or younger on 31st December 2024.

Every team competing receives a special certificate marking their achievement with local and regional winners also receive a range of prizes.

The winning teams at the national finals will receive €1,250 per school, with the runner up teams in each category receiving €750 for their schools, adding up to a fantastic prize fund of €4,000. The national winners and runners-up receive a silver salver, significant personal prizes for each team, and their schools are each awarded a substantial cheque.
